From the KRBI Sports Desk -- Friday, May 9, 2008 Emporia, Kansas – The Minnesota State softball team lost 1-0 Thursday to Nebraska-Omaha in the opening round of the NCAA North Central Regional tournament. The Mavs will play this morning in an elimination game.
Omaha, Nebraska – Chris Odegaard struck out 13 batters, leading Minnesota State to a 6-2 win over St. Cloud State at the North Central Conference baseball tournament. The Mavs will play in the semifinals this afternoon.

Mankato – South Dakota assistant coach Peter McGahey has been named the new women’s soccer coach at Minnesota State University. McGahey will replace the retiring Kris Miskec.
Mankato – It’s never too late to get your first hole-in-one in golf. 75-year-old Wendell Jahnke aced the 6th hole at Terrace View last week, using a 9-iron on the 120-yard hole.
State Sports
Chicago – Jermaine Dye and Juan Uribe both hit homeruns to lead the White Sox to a 6-2 win over the Minnesota Twins. The Twins lost two of three against the struggling Sox.
Minneapolis – The Twins are back at home tonight for a four-game series against the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox are 23-14 and lead the AL East. The Twins are 17-16 and lead the AL Central.
St. Paul – House members are clashing over whether to make hockey Minnesota’s official sport. Opponents say hockey isn’t popular in all parts of the state. Supporters say hockey has a unique place in Minnesota history.
